Concerning Unexpected Plot Twists
Me: The teacher tells me you had a rough time at lunch today.
Z: Yeah. I lost one of my friends. It made me really sad.
Me: Oh no! What happened?
Z: I just don’t have any idea. Nathan came up to me and told me that Marco didn’t want to be my friend anymore.
Me: That wasn’t very nice.
Z: No, no, it’s okay. I wasn’t mad at Nathan. He was just telling me about it.
Me: Well, maybe everything will be better on Monday. People have short memories, you know.
Z: It’s already all better.
Me: Oh yeah?
Z: At recess one of my other friends hypnotized Marco and told him to be my friend again and now he is.
Me: Oh. Well, okay then.
Z: Also, I swallowed my tooth while I was eating.
Editor’s Note:I bet you didn’t see either of those plot twists coming, did you?

A cool picture sadly marred by serious lens fog. Ah well. Live and learn.

Not Apocalyptic at All
Lest you think the world isn’t ending, here’s some pictures of the California skyline, miles from the actual, devastating fires in the wine country.

Went a little crazy with the post-processing…although not as much as you would think.

The bloody sun.
On the Importance of Picking Your Battles
Me: How did this water get all over the hardwood?
Little Dog: Me. I did that.
Me: You don’t even like water.
Little Dog: Not strictly true. I like the splooshing sound it makes when it hits the floor.
Me: You realize that when I step in it my socks get soggy.
Little Dog: You realize that when you walk across the floor in your wet socks it makes an intriguing splooshing sound.
Me: Look, Dog…
Little Dog: Let me show you how it’s done. First, you fill your mouth up with water. Then, you slowly walk across the dining room, letting it drool out in as many places as possible. Rinse and repeat.
Me: Dog…
Little Dog: Great game, right? Let’s do it again.
Me: I will move the water bowl further into the kitchen. I know how you feel about the kitchen.
Little Dog: My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me. That’s Thomas Hardy.
Me: No, that’s Jane Austen. Wait, what are you doing now?
Little Dog: I might be climbing up onto the table to see if the child left any food there. Maybe. I don’t know.
Me: Dude.
Little Dog: Or I could be making a play for your hat. So crunchy and delicious.
Me: Go back to drooling water all over the floor.
Little Dog: I knew you’d end up seeing it my way.

Whistling Far and Wee
Welcome to my corner of the blogosphere! Please take a look around. I use this space to chronicle my world as I wander through it. Sometimes, during my wanderings, I take pictures. I have a Nikon and a Fuji, and, like any good parent, I love both children equally. I talk to my dogs. They have been known to talk back. I also talk to my kid. He is guaranteed to talk back…and talk, and talk, and talk. So much talking. Occasionally, I opinionate. I’m considering posting some of my writing, which is fictional, voluminous, and unpublished. The jury is still out on where the blog is going, but maybe, like life, that’s the point. At the end of the day, I’m just whistling far and wee.
