Poetry: Of Boulevards

Of Boulevards

Leave the sea behind and chase the setting sun
In rambling eastward flight, through septic bends
Of stalling streets.  The prostitute portends
A deeper dive, a darker day begun,
As lonely boulevards become undone
In empty frays and knots.  Watch as she bends
Her flesh within its stucco frame and lends
Her body to the midnight debt.  As one,
The fallen starlets cluster ‘cross the street
To nibble scones and worry manicures
While Monday looses Sunday from its seat
In hissing soda fizz and vinyl purrs
Of booth releasing skin.  Cafe light leaks
Streetward.  The boulevard is undeterred.
